At Medical Detection Dogs, our extraordinary dogs are trained to detect the odour of disease, from life-threatening conditions like cancer to warning their owners of dangerous changes in blood sugar. Every one of our dogs begins their journey with a name and now, you can be part of that story.

Why Name a Puppy?

Naming a puppy is more than a heartwarming gesture, it’s the start of a powerful journey. Your support helps fund the training of our medical detection and assistance dogs, enabling them to go on and change, even save, lives.

By naming a puppy, you’re not only giving them an identity, but you’re also helping us cover the essential costs of their early training, care, and development.

Their name is the most important word they will learn, they will hear and respond to it tens of thousands of times over their partnership, and it will become the signal to pay attention and listen to the command coming shortly after.

It can take up to 2 years to train a puppy and costs £29,000 to care for, train, place and support a dog and their partner to become an accredited assistance dog team. We therefore have a variety of support options:
