IN TRAINING

Tashi at 8 weeks old

8 WEEKS

Tashi was named through our 'Name a Puppy' scheme by a supporter in memory of a friend’s daughter who sadly passed away following a severe allergic reaction to nuts.

Tashi joined us at 8 weeks old and moved in with a volunteer socialiser and her pet dog, Heidi. Tashi’s socialiser began her training with teaching her to respond to her name, carried walks and learning good manners.

6 MONTHS

By the time she was 6 months old, Tashi had learnt the basic obedience skills.

Supported by her Assistance Dog Trainer, she completed the Kennel Club foundation course and passed her first assessment.

When Tashi reached her first birthday, her skills (including good manners, reliable recall and confidently visiting busy public places) ensured she passed her next assessment.

FINAL ASSESSMENT

Tashi passed her final assessment and quite rightly looked very proud of herself.  She had mastered the excellent manners, confidence and demeanour of an assistance dog. The next step was to match her with a client, then train her on the client's unique odour which indicates a medical episode is imminent.

HOME STAY WITH CLIENT

Tashi completed her training and went to stay with her client on a home trial.  This was to prove she could consistently alert her client before sudden PoTS episodes in any environment (including the beach!).

Tashi Accreditation

ACCREDITATION

Tashi and her client Sophie, became an accredited Medical Alert Assistant Dog partnership.

Sophie describes the impact Tashi has on her life;

Tashi means saying yes to scary things, to opportunities and to a safe and happy existence.
