Sponsor Gus

Hi, I’m Gus. I’m an inquisitive and busy puppy and with your help, I can become a life-saving Medical Detection Dog.

Breed: Working Cocker Spaniel x Show Cocker Spaniel

Gender: Male

Colour: Liver

Likes: Playing with toys and discovering all the new smells in my garden

Dislikes: Only having 4 meals a day and not being able to play 24/7

Gus is in very good hands as he is with an experienced socialiser, Shirley, who has both socialised and fostered dogs for us previously. Shirley and her family really enjoy helping us with the socialising of our dogs and are doing a great job at teaching Gus the life skills he will need to become a Medical Detection Dog. Shirley will soon start taking Gus to new environments and he is already learning very quickly about how to sit and come when he is called – he is already showing that he is a clever and inquisitive young dog.

Trainer Becky says: “Gus is settling in to his new life really well. He loves to play and discover the scents and smells of the garden and the space around him. His eagerness to explore and his use of nose gives us a good indication that he’ll have a great career as a Medical Detection Dog. Gus is very tactile around people, has a fun, busy personality and will start coming to the centre to experience new sights and sounds soon. Everything is currently new and exciting, but he is taking everything in his stride and enjoying all the praise and rewards.”

We’re delighted that Gus has settled in so well and he is in for a fascinating and exciting few months ahead as he takes everything on board and begins to learn new life lessons. We are sure that he’ll go on to achieve great things.

The difference a sponsor puppy can make

Elizabeth’s journey with PoTS has been a rocky one to say the least. She only appeared to have black out episodes whilst doing judo and used to get some kind of warning beforehand. As time passed she began to feel more unwell in day to day life; was always extremely tired and dizzy, ached constantly, and had frequent heart palpitations and chest pain. Her black outs also started happening more and more frequently without warning, and whilst doing daily activities, such as school, shopping or watching TV. Elizabeth also had a fair few bad injures and concussions from dropping suddenly. Henry and Elizabeth were partnered up and ready to give it a whirl in the real world. Elizabeth was blown away how much more relaxed, calm and safe her episodes were. Henry would alert, she’d sit down, and everything would run its course smoothly; no injuries or drama. With time his alerting became really strong and he hardly missed any episodes! Henry has allowed Elizabeth to take her independence back and start living! He’s her wet nosed knight in shining armour and she couldn’t be more grateful to him.
