Donations in lieu of flowers

Donations in lieu of flowers

Many families now request a donation to Medical Detection Dogs rather than leaving funeral flowers.

It doesn’t mean that there won’t be any flowers at the funeral, just that floral tributes will be limited to immediate family, while others are invited to donate to Medical Detection Dogs

Collecting donations instead of flowers at a funeral can help Medical Detection Dogs to continue to fund pioneering research into early disease detection or to train more assistance dogs to help individuals manage complex health conditions.

Most funeral directors are willing to collect donations in lieu of flowers, handling the administration of these gifts for you and making sure that they are passed to Medical Detection Dogs.  However, sometimes people might prefer to make a simple one-off donation in memory of someone close.  We can help by providing envelopes for the service plate collection.

We will acknowledge each kind donation and let you know who has donated, unless you ask us not to.

Some people choose to set up an online memorial page to collect donations in lieu of flowers. This is easy to do and only takes 5 minutes. You can personalise your page by adding photographs and stories of your loved one. Once your page has been created, you can forward the link to all your contacts who can donate in their own time. The money comes directly through to us and includes Gift Aid for those donors who are UK tax payers.

Setting up an online memorial page to collect your in lieu flower donations is easy; simply click here and set up a page ‘Remembering Someone.’

We are grateful to the families who have requested that people donate to Medical Detection Dogs as a tribute, rather than buying funeral flowers.  We hope that your considerate tribute brought some comfort to loved ones.
